8 Stylish Ways Of Displaying Your Family Photos In Your Home

Today I will be sharing with you ideas on how to fill your home with heart warming photos that will bring you daily happiness.

We all have family photos that we love, ones taken by professional family photographers, ones captured by you and photos pass on to you from your parents.

Let’s not keep these family memories hidden on your phones and computers – print these family photos and use them to decorate your home.

I have lots of ideas to share with you on how you can print your photos and use them to create a feature wall in your home.

Your family photos will not only make your home look more beautiful it will give you a source of pride and happiness each time you walk past them and be reminded of the beautiful family that you are a part of.

Let’s take a look at some creative ways of how you can create a photo wall display for your family photos.

1 - The Gallery Wall

Every home has one. A big empty wall that you just can’t seem to find a solution for and is a really challenge to decorate.

Creating a gallery wall of images is a perfect solution for a blank wall. With a gallery wall, you have the choice to be creative, use creative colourful frames mixed with art work or be more formal and symmetrical in your choice of wall design.

A blank wall gives you an opportunity to create a beautiful mash up of all your favourite photos displayed in perfect arrangement for your space.

2 - Black & White Photography Wall Art

I have a real soft spot for black and white photography. It’s timeless and classy and works so well in all house types.

A black and white wall of frames and prints makes a statement. This monochrome will add sophistication to any home. These photos are easy to design as a group collection whether your choice be a symmetric, streamlined look or eclectic and asymmetric. Either will look beautiful and elegant.

I also find with black and white images that the viewer is drawn more closely to the photo to see the story that is being told.

3 - Staircase Gallery Wall

Your staircase gives you endless choice on how to design a wall gallery as you will see from the ideas below. You can go quirky and full of colour or simple and classic.  What ever is your family style you can create for your walls.

I love to first decide on the design and then select photos to fit this makes the design process easier for me as once the design outline and frames are chosen it is simply a case of filling the frames.

Note your photo frames need to be spaced out so they follow the line of the steps going up. Measure from the first step up to the bottom of the first frame and use this measurement every few steps to place the next picture, and so on. If using small frames, create a collection between two, three of four frames before moving up the stairs.

4 - Picture Ledge Gallery Wall

A picture ledge is another unique way to display your gallery wall. You can so easily creative this look without having to worry about hanging up photo frames, creating holes in your walls and making sure that all your photos frames are level.

I also really love this idea because you can mix in with your photos your art work, positive words and other decor items like books, candles or plants. You also have the option to easily update the photos as and when you want.

Your photos don’t have to be the only thing on your wall display. Mix in artwork or prints you have collected. Your favourite quotes or blocks of colour to really add your personality into your photo wall deisgn.

5 - The Instagram Photo Wall

This is a trend I have seen emerge since Instagram has become so popular.

Curating together 9 or more square frames of your favourite images, hung on a wall.  Depending on the size of the wall you can go for big square frames or small or extra small depending on the look you wish to create.

Think of it as a giant, life-size instagram feed. Arrange your frames so they fit together to create a square or rectangle design on your wall. Leave an equal amount of space between each frame so you can see the collection without it being squashed and to give your photo wall the Instagram grid look. This design works with all sizes of square frames you can go as big or as small as you like.

This is a great way to also share photos all from the same family story such as a family holiday, a birthday celebration or a favourite activity all captured and printed to tell a story.

7 - Triptych

A triptych is a set of 3 identically sized and styled frames set side-by-side.

The rule of 3 is a popular pattern used by interior designers, florists and photographers.

The rule of 3 helps to create beautiful composition, as items displayed in odd numbers create a pleasing design. Create a triptych above your bed or sofa is a great way to design an eye catching look for your room.

8 - One Big Photo

Keep the wall design simple and go for one big photo print. Create this as the focus point of a room, a big photo frame above the fire place or on a slim wall to fill that wall with you favourite image. I love big prints they make a strong, bold story about what is important in your life.

This is my one big photo for my house of my two amazing, crazy kids.

The reason why this photo was chosen is because in my culture we do not cut a boys hair till they are 5 – this photo was taken just before my son’s first hair cut.
